Media Studies (A.A.)
Program RequirementsThe Associate of Arts Degree in Media Studies provides students with tools for critically examining the forms and contents of contemporary mass media and gives them unique opportunities for creating and showcasing their own multimedia.  Courses address web-based media applications, social and cultural impacts of media, media production, film and media history, literacy, and media criticism.  Coursework, service opportunities, and internships emphasize writing and critical thinking as a means of analyzing media in various social and cultural contexts; students learn first-hand how to become effective storytellers who produce compelling content for convergent modes of delivery. Media Studies majors learn the basic cinematography, video and audio editing, how to format video for DVD and online formats, introductory screenwriting, and how to complete a project from conception to distribution and craft a video portfolio to showcase their best work in entertainment, news, public relations, or social media.
