S.O.A.R. Into Life at GSC!SOAR into life @ GSC!

Welcome to Gainesville State College! As a new freshman or transfer student, you’re bound to have tons of questions about GSC – you know you’re accepted, but what’s next?  SOAR (Student Orientation, Advisement, and Registration) will help you answer just that, providing an introduction to the college and helping you feel more comfortable at GSC.

Our orientation program is designed to give you a broad overview of the many campus resources we have available.  You’ll learn about several departments – including Academic Advising, Disability Services, Financial Aid, and Student Life – and learn basic information about registration and course planning for your first semester.  You’ll even get to meet with an advisor and register for classes!*

Parent/Guest Session

While students register for classes, parents and guests are invited to tour the campus and attend a special session that answers remaining questions and more.  We’ll explore, in depth, students’ transition to college and how you can best support their success.  You’ll even have an opportunity to network with ‘veteran’ and new college parents, as well as sign up for our monthly parent newsletter.  Visit our special Parents & Family webpage for information on the College, admissions, financial aid, and more!

*Please note that because parents/guests cannot attend registration with their students, course selection and class load should be discussed prior to attending SOAR.

GSC StudentsMaking a Reservation to Attend SOAR

SOAR sessions are held at both the Gainesville and Oconee campuses prior to the start of each academic term.  All students (regardless of campus preference) are encouraged to attend the soonest possible SOAR session to ensure the widest variety of classes from which to choose during registration.  SOAR generally lasts about 2.5 hours, not including check-in.

All first-time freshmen are required to attend SOAR; new transfer students are strongly encouraged to attend.  Required placement tests (as outlined in the admissions letter) must be scheduled before registering for SOAR.  Tests and retests must be completed prior to your scheduled SOAR date.
